Hey first off i didnt know where to post this topic, so sorry if its in the wrong place.. I was just wondering what you guys think the top speed of an 05 gto m6 with JUST the governor removed would be... I can hit 160 in 5th gear.. I was looking at the top speed of other cars like the 04 vette with the 5.7 and its 185. And on 03 cobra mustang is 172.. I was thinking this car should be able to hit 180 at least.. Well i would like ure opinions, and if anyone has a vid of this send me the link.... thanks

not in exhaust like the last thread. Your car will only go as fast you can Just go out and try it someday.

You can search and find some threads on this topic. However, if you maxed out at 160 in 5th, then that's all she has. I'm pretty sure 6th won't take you there.

I have an 05 m6 with no mods except the muffs taken off and pipes in their place. I have had mine at 6th gear at 177 before it ran out of steam (did this about 2wks ago here in fl.). When it was all said and done I and the car needed oxygen! This might give you a ref. point.

Mine is still stock and I have had it up to 165 and still pulling until I had to let off because I was running out of road.

i hit 173 last summer but i think i can hit 185 or so now that i have some more mods but i gotta wait till summer again. damn winter!

5th will take you farther and you didn't hit 177 in a stock car.

I would be interesting if someone had the speed limiter tuned out (no other tuning for power, etc) to see the true top speed of a stock GTO.
I would expect a stock GTO to top out around 175 mph (without a speed limiter).

True, as soon as the speedo is off the car is not stock. I would think he meant stock motor. Still if you are getting the limiter removed whos not going to get a tune while they do it.

The Monaro VXR is advertised as a 180+ top speed car. Since 05-06 has the same engine with speed limiter removed you should be able hit same results in good conditions...
though top speed is probably the most usless stat next to horsepower per liter.

I'm also curious if 6th gear pulls top speed on a stock car, which is 165 or thereabouts, right? It'd be waaaay under peak HP, but right on peak TQ. But getting there it'd be waaay under peak TQ as well. Just curious.
By the way, with just my Borla catback, I immediately felt a lot less balls down low, but might have a bit more balls higher up, but who knows at which rpm point things turn around. Good discussion.
Oh, and an easy way to know your top speed in 5th gear is to just run your car at half redline (3,250 rpm for us LS2 guys) and double the number.
And finally, we're talking 'indicated' top speed guys, so 177 on the speedo is actually a lot less. Plus altitude has A LOT to do with how fast you can go. At my 4K' here, it's going to be a lot less than near sea-level folks. Later.

If you guys would search this has been covered ALOT. The VXR will do 181 in 5TH STOCK (no limiter). 6th is to tall and we do not have the hp stock to push it.

and I'm not even sure where your trying to go with this. 177 on the speedo is 177 within the tolerances of the speedo anyway.

An M6 GTO will redline (6500) at 170mph in 5th. 6th would take you to 251 if you had 13-1400hp!!!!!

LoL the guy earlier said he hit 177 in flordia bout 2 weeks ago in his STOCK GTO!!. (Rcn11thacr). There is No way his car his stock. A stock GtO only goes 155 bc thats what the limiter is set to. All i know is my car is all stock with 4,100 miles on it. 5th gear redlines at 161 miles an hour.. 6th gear isnt a power gear its for crusing, gas milage. There is no way 6th gear has the power to pull the car at that speed.. What im wondering is how come other cars with half the power and motor will hit faster top speeds.. Like i had a 02 lightning, and it would hit 160. My friends 2004 stock gt mustang with 4.6 260hp would hit 150 untill the gov. kicked in.. The 03 cobra 4.6 supercharged will hit 175. The 04 vette will hit 180+. Why wont the GTO go at least 180... IT doesnt make sense, having 6.0 and 400HP.. Heck even the new 05 mustang gts with 300hp will hit 160+.. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM???

Like you said, 6th gear isn't geared right to take you there without more power.
